Dylan Moore delivered a walk-off single to center field against Boston reliever Hansel Robles in the bottom of the ninth inning, giving the Seattle Mariners a 7-6 victory over the Red Sox.
Seattle came to bat in the ninth trailing 6-5. Bobby Dalbec, a Seattle native, had broken a 5-5 tie in the top of the inning with a solo home run to left field for Boston.
The Mariners answered quickly. Abraham Toro tied the game with an RBI single that scored J.P. Crawford. Moore then sent a ball past a diving Jackie Bradley Jr. in center field, bringing home pinch-runner Sam Haggerty with the winning run. The teams split the first two games of the series.
Boston struck first. Third baseman Rafael Devers hit a deep two-run homer to right field off Seattle starter George Kirby two batters into the game. Xander Bogaerts later scored on a single by catcher Christian Vazquez, putting the Red Sox up 3-0.
The Mariners got two runs back in the bottom of the first on three hits. Ty France scored from third on a wild pitch, and Julio Rodriguez came home on an RBI single by Adam Frazier.
Rodriguez put Seattle ahead in the second with a two-run homer into the left-field bullpen off Boston starter Michael Wacha. The shot was estimated at 406 feet and 108.4 mph off the bat, and it made the score 4-3.
Wacha lasted 4.1 innings, throwing 91 pitches. He allowed eight hits and four runs, three of them earned, with one walk and three strikeouts. Jake Diekman replaced him with one out in the fifth and got Frazier to hit into an inning-ending double play.
J.D. Martinez helped Boston respond in the fifth, hitting his seventh homer of the season on a hanging breaking ball from Kirby. Kirby left after five innings having thrown 97 pitches. He gave up five runs, three earned, along with one walk and four strikeouts.
In the seventh, Toro doubled off the top of the left-field wall, scoring Crawford. The ball came within inches of leaving the park, and the hit tied the game at 5-5.
Paul Sewald (3-1) earned the win for Seattle, while Robles (1-2) took the loss.
